Will I have to cover my hair if I go to work in the Middle East?
Some of our female clients come to us with the question “Will I have to cover my hair if I go to work in the Middle East?” for example, to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or to Qatar or Egypt.
The answer to the question is it really depends on where you go. However, in most parts of the Middle East and North Africa, you do not need to cover your hair unless of course you are a Muslim. There are a couple of exceptions to this rule. If you are a Western woman and you travel to Saudi Arabia you will need to cover your hair and you will also need to wear an abaya which is sort of like a black overcoat. If you go to Iran, you will also need to cover your hair. But apart from that, there is really no reason that you would need to cover your hair in the region unless you are going inside a mosque.
